Silver Australian Lunar Horse Coin Design

In 2014, we celebrated the 7th animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar Horse include 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 and 2014. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to have keen powers of observation and unerring instincts. They are also enthusiastic and gregarious and don't lack independent thinking. They symbolise freedom, speed, boldness and loyalty. The term "swift horses" means 'talented people' and 'geniuses' in traditional Chinese culture. The reverse of each coin features two horses drinking from a stream, with a tree to the left hand side and various rocks in the stream. The Chinese character for ‘horse’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Horse’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse.
