Silver Australian Lunar Pig Coin Design
In 2019, we celebrated the 12th animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar Pig include 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007 and 2019. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be diligent, compassionate and generous. They are also calm when facing trouble and can handle difficult problems carefully and responsibly. People born under the sign of the Pig rarely seek help from others but will not refuse to give others a hand. With a round and fat face, the Pig is the symbol of wealth, felicity, honesty and practicality in Chinese zodiac culture. The reverse of each coin features a detailed design showing a pig standing proudly with its snout in the air with her four piglets close by. The Chinese character for 'pig’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Pig’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2019 year-date and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse. These coins are quite beautiful and are individually encased in a hard plastic capsule. A lovely addition to your collection or a unique gift for family or friends. The Perth Mint Background
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. The heritage building was situated in the heart of Perth, the capital and largest city of Western Australia. It was Australia’s third branch of Britain’s Royal Mint – the others being the Sydney Mint and the Melbourne Mint (both closed). In 1970, the authority for The Perth Mint was transferred to the State of Western Australia. The Perth Mint gold and silver bullion coins have been issued as legal tender under the authority of the Australian Federal Government ever since.
