Kookaburra Coin Background

Manufactured exclusively by The Perth Mint as the Australian Government’s official Gold and Silver Bullion Coin producer, these beautiful coins are legal tender in Australia ($30 AUD) and contains 1000 grams of .999 fine silver. Considered the flagship coin series of the Perth Mint, silver kookaburras were first introduced to the market in 1990 and is the longest-running bullion program from the mint. The Kookaburra coins are extremely popular with investors due to a traditionally low mintage and because the reverse design is changed with each issue making them extremely collectable.

The Perth Mint Background

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. The heritage building was situated in the heart of Perth, the capital and largest city of Western Australia. It was Australia’s third branch of Britain’s Royal Mint – the others being the Sydney Mint and the Melbourne Mint (both closed). In 1970, the authority for The Perth Mint was transferred to the State of Western Australia. The Perth Mint gold and silver bullion coins have been issued as legal tender under the authority of the Australian Federal Government ever since.
