Silver Perth Mint 125th Anniversary 2024 Coin Design

Manufactured by The Perth Mint as the Australian Government’s official Gold and Silver Bullion Coin producer, these beautiful coins are legal tender in Australia ($1 AUD) and contain 31.1035g of fine 999.9 silver. A tribute to The Perth Mints best known coin series. Designed by Jennifer McKenna this coin depicts a kangaroo, kookaburra and koala amongst golden wattle, Australia’s national floral emblem. Wording at the base of the reverse reads ‘1899 THE PERTH MINT 2024’  in a scroll. Also included are a ‘P125’ mintmark and the coin’s weight, purity, and year-date. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Dan Thorne effigy of the Late His Majesty King Charles III, surrounded by the wording CHARLES III AUSTRALIA, and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse.

The Perth Mint Background

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. The heritage building was situated in the heart of Perth, the capital and largest city of Western Australia. It was Australia’s third branch of Britain’s Royal Mint – the others being the Sydney Mint and the Melbourne Mint (both closed). In 1970, the authority for The Perth Mint was transferred to the State of Western Australia. The Perth Mint gold and silver bullion coins have been issued as legal tender under the authority of the Australian Federal Government ever since.
