Silver Australian Lunar Dragon Coin Design

In 2012, we celebrated the 5th animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar Dragon include 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be charismatic, intelligent, confident, powerful and are also naturally lucky and gifted. The Dragon is also said to symbolise power, nobleness, honour, luck and success in traditional Chinese culture. The Dragon is a supernatural being with no parallel for talent and excellence. The reverse of each coin features a mythical Chinese dragon. The Chinese character for 'dragon’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Dragon’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2012 year-date and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse.
