2oz Silver Tudor Beasts Bull of Clarence Coin Background

During the reign of Henry VIII, majestic beasts stood guard over the moat of Hampton Court Palace, representing the King and the powerful Tudor dynasty. They were chosen to symbolise strength, leadership and courage. The Silver Tudor Beast Bull of Clarence coin is the third release in the bullion coin collection.  All the coins in the Royal Tudor Beasts collection have been designed by David Lawrence who is an illustrator and sculptor with more than 30 years experience which includes coin design.  The obverse of this coin is the first coin in the collection to feature the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III which was designed by Martin Jennings. The reverse of the coin depicts the Bull of Clarence carrying a shield which features the Tudor Rose against a background that resembles chain mail and includes surface animation which also provides an additional security measure.  This is one of the most famous symbols of the Tudors and symbolises the union between the House of York (white rose) and the House of Lancaster (red rose) with the marriage between Elizabeth of York and Henry VII, Henry VIII's mother and father. It also traditionally symbolises the strength and wealth of the Tudors.  The Bull of Clarence was chosen to join the King's Beasts on the Moat Bridge to emphasise Henry VIII's ancestral links to the powerful Yorkist dynasty. The third in the bullion series, The Tudor Beasts Bull of Clarence is available in 1oz gold, 10oz silver and 1/4oz gold.
