Kangaroo Coin Background

Manufactured exclusively by The Perth Mint as the Australian Government’s official Gold and Silver Bullion Coin producer, these beautiful coins are legal tender in Australia ($1 AUD) and contain one full troy ounce of fine silver (31.1035 grams).  Each coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination on the obverse. The reverse of the 1996 1oz Silver Kangaroo depicts an image of a mother and baby "Roo", whilst the 2001 coin features a distinctive design of a Kangaroo by Aboriginal artist, Jeantte Timbery. The silver bullion coin’s reverse has an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter ‘A’. It is within the first A of AUSTRALIAN and it is only detectable under a magnifying glass.
