History: Issued by The Royal Mint, full Gold Sovereigns are one of the most popular and best known gold coins in the world. The Royal Mint required the six branches to identify their coins using either the initial letter of the city or country of origin - Sydney (S), Melbourne (M), Perth (P), Ottawa (C), Bombay (I) and Pretoria (SA).  These can be found above the middle two figures of the date.  Only 958 collections have been assembled. In the present day all sovereigns are all minted by the Royal Mint in the UK.
